How do I clean my teeth during Invisalign treatment?

Our Delta Straight Smile dentists use Invisalign to help our patients achieve a straighter smile. To keep your smile bright and healthy throughout your Invisalign treatment it's important to keep your teeth and aligners clean.

Invisalign Aligners Are Removable

Keeping your smile healthy throughout your orthodontic treatment is easy with Invisalign!

Invisalign's removable aligners allow you to thoroughly clean your teeth without the extra steps and special tools required with traditional orthodontic treatment.

With Invisalign you just pop your aligners out, and brush and floss your teeth as usual. Then simply clean your aligners and pop them back in place.

It is important to remember that, whenever you remove your aligners you should take the time to brush and floss thoroughly before placing the aligners back on your teeth.

Remember, in order to achieve the best results possible from your Invisalign treatment it is essential to wear your aligners for a minimum of 20-22 hours every day. Taking your aligners out too often or for too long could hamper your treatment progress.

How to Clean Your Aligners

Whenever you remove your aligners be sure to clean them before putting them back on your teeth.

To clean your aligners, simply use a mild soft soap (not toothpaste) and a soft bristled toothbrush to brush away any plaque that may have built up.

It's also a good idea to soak your aligners regularly in Invisalign cleaning crystals, denture cleaner, Retainer Brite, or plain white vinegar to help remove any stubborn buildup and to keep your aligners sanitized.

If you have to take your aligners out but don't have your cleaning tools handy, be sure to give them a good rinse under warm (not hot) running water before returning them to your mouth.

To avoid food particles and bacteria getting trapped in the tight spaces between your teeth and aligners, you must brush and floss your teeth after each meal, before putting your aligners back in place.
