One great thing about Invisalign is that your aligners won't impact WHAT you eat, but they may have more of affect on WHEN you eat it. Here, our dentists explain how Invisalign may affect your diet.
Unlike traditional metal braces Invisalign does not require you to give up your favourite foods, like popcorn.
All you need to do is simply remove your clear aligners to eat, then put them back in once you've finished eating and brushing your teeth.
Since you will need to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day, you may just want to make some adjustments to how often you eat.
Skip The Snacks and Enjoy Larger Meals
If you tend to eat three meals a day and forgo snacks, then Invisalign will fit easily into your daily schedule. However, if you tend to snack throughout the day and just have one larger meal at dinnertime, it may require a bit of an adjustment.
Since you'll need to clean your teeth every time you eat, snacking requires you to constantly take out your aligners and brush your teeth which can be time consuming and inconvenient.
You may find it helpful to eat fewer, larger meals and snack less throughout the day.
Drink More Water
You are able to drink cold water with your aligners in.
However, if you drink coffee, or enjoy a glass of red wine at night, you will need to remove your aligners first and be sure to brush your teeth after. Dark and sugary liquids can stain your aligners and hot liquids could warp them!
You may find that you prefer to drink plain water during your Invisalign treatment just to make life a little easier.
