How does wearing an Invisalign aligner feel?

How does wearing an Invisalign aligner feel?

When considering treatment options to straighten your teeth, comfort can be a big part of your decision. Here, our dentist sheds some light on how it feels to wear an Invisalign clear aligner.

It’s understandable to wonder how your new aligners are going to feel. For most people, they don’t cause pain. Instead, it’s a discomfort that you get used to and eventually forget about.

Think of Invisalign aligners like a new pair of shoes. Once you wear them for a little while, you begin to get used to how they feel.

Getting Used to Your Aligners

Like traditional braces, there is an adjustment period when wearing Invisalign.

Because the whole point of Invisalign is to shift your teeth into a straighter smile, the aligners have to put pressure on the teeth.

Putting pressure on the teeth may mean soreness. You may feel this soreness during the first few days after putting in a new set of aligners, but it eventually wears off, until it is time to put in the next set.

Although Invisalign does not contain any metal, the aligners can also irritate the oral soft tissues until you become accustomed to them.

After a while, your gums and cheeks will toughen up and the aligners will no longer cause discomfort.

So tough it out and after the first week or two it’ll feel much better!
